"The New Wave" was the very first single released by Daft Punk in 1994 on the Soma Recordings label. Later that year, it was released again, but this time, with a UMM label under license from Soma Recordings. Though it was originally a standalone single, the track eventually evolved into "Alive" which was one of the tracks on the duo's first studio album, Homework released in 1997. The evolution from "The New Wave" to "Alive" is evident in the standalone's track listing.
